Houston is ranked one of the top cities for birdwatching, new study says

Given the vast variety of birds in the area, Houston recently was named as one of the best cities for birdwatching. In fact, Houston was ranked as the No. 3 best American city for birdwatching by landscaping company Lawnlove.The Bayou City fell behind No. 1 New York and No. 2 San Diego, but it soared far above other Texas cities — Austin came in next at No. 9.
The study was put together by evaluating four categories: accessibility, bird variety, popularity and conservation. Researchers collected information on 200 cities in the U.S. using data from the American Birding Association, Audubon, eBird, Meetup, NestWatch, PlaygroundEquipment.com, the Trust for Public Land, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Yelp.
The study gave each city a total score out of 100. Houston scored 44.57, high enough to place it in the top 3 cities in which to watch out for feathered friends.
