Big Pokey, whose given name was Milton Powell, had been performing a show at Pour 09 Bar, according to A video posted to social media showed Powell with a microphone in hand when he suddenly appeared to faint or pass out, falling backward and landing on his back. The video shows people rushing over to him to offer aid.Artists have publicly posted condolences following Powell's death.

He was easy to love and hard to hate,” fellow rapper Bun B posted on Instagram. "He’d pull up, do what he had to do and head home. One of the pillars of our city. If heart of gold was a person. Iconic member of the SUC. There will never be another and will be missed dearly. We love and honor you Sensei. Rest in heaven," Bun B continued.
