The University of Houston and Washington are in discussions on a home-and-home football series, sources told the Houston Chronicle.With the likelihood of a nine-game Big 12 schedule moving forward, the Cougars can expect three non-conference games each year. The Big 12 requires schools to play at least one game against the other Power Five conferences , plus one game against opponents from the Group of Five and FCS.
UH has one open spot in the 2024. non-conference schedule that includes a home game against UNLV and trip to Boise State. Other future Power Five opponents include Colorado , Utah and LSU in the 2027 Texas Kickoff at NRG Stadium. UH officials have indicated the scheduling philosophy for non-conference games is to regionalize Group of Five and FCS opponents. The school is in talks to play crosstown rival Rice each year through 2028 or 2029, athletic director Chris Pezman said last year.
