A 33-year-old restaurant worker who used a 12-week coding bootcamp to land a steady tech job during the pandemic describes her experience
She joined Lighthouse Labs' web-development bootcamp last May to change careers into tech.The majority of Meghan Hein's adult life has been spent working in hospitality.
She was one of the first cohorts to complete the bootcamp online rather than at the Toronto facility. Following the bootcamp, Hein signed a three-month contract as a remote part-time apprentice with Lighthouse Labs, while also collecting CERB and employment insurance . "I remember looking at the cohort ahead of me to see what they were doing and thinking that there was no way I would be able to build a crazy application with animation — it was wild to me to think I could do it," Hein said."But I put my head down and learned. Also I had mentors, so I could hop on the virtual cue and talk through the exercise one on one."
