Ryan Sitton is a longtime believer in free markets, but he’s convinced that the U.S. oil markets need unprecedented government intervention to make it through the coronavirus crisis.
Sitton is a commissioner on the Texas Railroad Commission, an agency that has the power to force oil producers to cut production through a process called pro-rationing. They haven’t used that power in almost 50 years. But now he’s working with Texas oil and gas producers and international oil ministers to make a deal happen.
