No surprise to see the lovable big man on screen with full-time acting in his post-basketball plans.
At first, the staff asked to use St. Jean’s name for the combine coach — because St. Jean had made clear he didn’t think he’d cut it as an actor.“We’d love for you to come do it yourself,” St. Jean remembered the caster said. “Your team did great at the combine. We loved your sideline presence. You did a great job. You just have such a coach presence.Thank goodness St. Jean had some experience — as a 10-year-old in a school production of “Annie” with a role so small he can’t remember it.
St. Jean’s lone request on set: A nearby power outlet so he could continue his work on Mavericks coach Jason Kidd’s new staff.“I asked Jason, ‘Hey, are you OK with me going and playing the movie?’” St. Jean recalled. “He was all on board, was super supportive, and then also enjoyed for the next six months until the movie came out [saying], ‘Hey, movie star.’”
