The only time Leonard was happy to hear about a mile marker was the final one. “She just told me, ‘It can’t be; I know it’s not,’” Lickteig said. “When she saw it, she just burst into tears and I think it sunk in that she was going to finish 100 miles. When she crossed the line, it was something I can’t even describe. Seeing my mom accomplish a dream and goal, it was so heartfelt.”
