Diaz was left in limbo. Before he was fired, reports surfaced that Miami was going to offer Oregon’s Mario Cristobal to be its next coach. If he didn’t accept, Miami would retain Diaz. Miami caught plenty of flack for a mishandled process that left Diaz “disappointed” when he was let go on Dec. 6, 2021.
