'You can look at season one as consolidation of power, and season two as the erosion of it — and then what comes in its place is chaos,' says NarcosMexico boss Eric Newman of the finale NarcosNetflix

forever changed the relationship between Mexico and the United States in the failed war on drugs. By the end of season two, Gallardo has lost control and is behind bars, and the rising bosses from the Sinaloa, Tijuana and Juarez cartels are stepping up in his place.

So in terms of how long it could go? Unfortunately, it could go forever. By the time we were to catch up with the present, it would no longer be the present. It would be sad chapters of a continuing story that would become the past. By the time we would get to 2020, we would have so much new material that would have regenerated and we could just keep going until it or we expire.

There’s a very topical, very relevant theme here of the portrayal of public trust. There was a very significant election in 1988, which began one of Mexico’s most corrupt political administrations. And that seemed like something that needed to be covered [in season two], along with the relationship between politics and narcotics on both sides of the border. You can look at season one ofas consolidation of power, and season two as the erosion of it — and then what comes in its place is chaos.
