Israel Rivera, who oversees the parent engagement department at Dallas ISD, said the deaths in Carrollton and Farmers Branch prompted Dallas officials to act.“We started getting some buzz,” Rivera said. “How can we get the message out to parents? There was a need for a discussion on fentanyl.” The clinicians support students who are reintegrating into their campus environment after spending time in alternative schools, said Tracey Brown, the district’s head of mental health services.“So they [gain] the refusal skills that they need when they are approached by their peers and offered drugs,” Brown said.
