Below-zero temperatures can freeze pipes, cars and pets. But it does waste water, so use this technique only on a faucet connected to a pipe that may freeze.
Neighborhood animals, especially cats, may snuggle up to a warm car engine. Bang on the hood before starting to give them a chance to get away. Even with their fur, temperatures as low as those expected can be dangerous. Bring pets inside. But if you absolutely can’t, provide your pet with a comfortable spot and shelter from the wind.
Wipe off your dog’s paws and underside with a wet, warm towel after walking outside. Dogs will lick themselves clean and may not tolerate chemicals picked up from roads.
