How Willie Nelson's 'Amazing Grace' changed Brené Brown's life
Aside from being Texas icons, you may not think Brené Brown and Willie Nelson have much in common.
That's until you listen to Nelson's rendition of"Amazing Grace," one of the world's best-known hymns, and hear Brown talk about her connection to it. She shared her thoughts in the latest"In a very weird way, Willie's version of Amazing Grace was completely transformative for me. It actually stopped me dead in my tracks," Brown said."I was 41 and going through a really, pretty serious kind of midlife unraveling.
Newton also published a pamphlet,"Thoughts Upon the African Slave Trade," in 1788, describing the brutal treatment of enslaved Africans transported to the Americas. He died in 1807, at the age of 82.During her crisis, Brown began collecting every version of"Amazing Grace" she could find. That's when she discovered Nelson's 1976 version. She said she was drawn to it because"I like my spirituality with honky-tonk rising.
