Officer injured after cruiser crashes into ditch during north Houston chase, HPD says
A Houston police cruiser crashed into a ditch after pursuing a stolen truck in north Houston on July 23, 2022.A Houston police officer was injured and taken to a hospital Saturday morning after a pursuit of a stolen truck ended with a police cruiser in a north Houston ditch, according to authorities.
It is unclear where the pursuit began but officers spotted the truck around 1 a.m. and ran the plates which showed it had been stolen out of Humble, HPD Lt. Ronnie Wilkens said. The driver fled after officers attempted to pull the vehicle over. During the chase, the suspect drove the truck into an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Irvington Boulevard near Weiss Street, where they crashed through the apartment's security gate and side gate before resting in a ditch, Wilkens said. The police cruiser followed the vehicle and crashed into the ditch as well.Officers took three men into custody and were still attempting to locate a woman who is believed to be the fourth suspect, he added.
One officer was injured during the crash and was taken to a local hospital with an apparent concussion but is expected to be OK, police said.THE NEWS YOU NEED:
