CNN's Paula Newton is on the ground in Man-O-War Cay in the Bahamas today, where she is seeing firsthand the destruction Dorian left behind.
Recovery efforts have already started on the island, where people had to crawl into closets and bathrooms to survive the storm, Newton says.Here's how she describes it to CNN's John King: "You can imagine these people have survived one of the strongest storms to ever hit this Earth and, John, it is devastation everywhere you look. Think about it. We have seen entire, entire fields of debris, places completely flattened. People are struggling to really even tell us the stories and what they lived through. Hours and hours of winds where they had to debris of pieces of their home running through the windows. There is nothing left of this kind of community here.
