Days after the slow-moving Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas, the weakened Category 3 storm is forecast to lash the U.S. east coast with life-threatening storm surges
High tide brought some flooding to Charleston, South Carolina, on Wednesday, as the city prepared for the impact of Hurricane Dorian.: over the next 36 hours, the National Hurricane CentreAs of 5 a.m., Dorian was hovering 80 miles off Charleston, South Carolina, and 200 miles from Wilmington, North Carolina.
Storm surge warnings are in place for locations dotted up the east coast, stretching from Albemarle Sound in North Carolina, to Hampton Roads in Virginia. Hurricane conditions are expected in parts of North Carolina and Virginia in the next few hours, while the Delaware and Massachusetts coasts will see tropical storm conditions.
Dorian is moving at around 8 mph and bringing maximum sustained winds of 115 mph. It is expected to turn northeast and speed up by Friday. Gusts can be felt 60 miles out from the storm’s centre.: Dorian, which is now a Category 3 storm, is expected to weaken on Saturday and will remain a hurricane “for the next few days,” the NHC said.
