Three hurricanes are churning in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans this week, including a major one expected over Bermuda, after the calmest start to a hurricane season in 25 years

There were no Atlantic hurricanes in the month of August, the first time that had happened since 1997 and only the third time since 1950, according to the National Hurricane Center. The Atlantic hurricane season typically lasts from June to November, with 90% of the storms coming after Aug. 1.

The territory’s Ministry of National SecurityOn Wednesday morning, Danielle was more than 750 miles southeast of Canada’s easternmost tip and moving northeast but wasn’t threatening land, forecasters said.

In May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted that the 2022 Atlantic hurricane seasonin part because of warm sea-surface temperatures. The agency estimated there would be as many as 21 named storms and 10 hurricanes instead of the average season of 14 named storms and seven hurricanes.
