Hydee Feldstein Soto leads in Nov. 8 results for LA city attorney race, saying she can handle the job from “day one.”
Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto was holding a steady lead over her opponent Faisal Gill in the race for Los Angeles city attorney after the Los Angeles County registrar released semi-official results from the 2022 statewide general election shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.
“As the ballots are counted, I am cautiously optimistic and also prepared for what might be a long November, as it took until the final count in the primary for the results in this race,” Feldstein Soto tweeted Tuesday night, adding that she was “ready to serve the people of Los Angeles and make this a City that works for everyone.”
In the June primary, Gill came in slightly ahead of Feldstein Soto in a crowded field. He is a criminal attorney and civil litigator who migrated with his family from Pakistan to the U.S. when he was a child. He graduated from American University Law School and moved to Los Angeles in 2018. A former Republican, he says he became a Democrat after experiencing discrimination as a Muslim.
Feldstein Soto is also an immigrant to the U.S., born in Puerto Rico where she grew up speaking Spanish at home and English at school. When she was a teenager, Feldstein Soto moved to the U.S. on her own to attend college. She earned her law degree at the Columbia University School of Law.
