'I owe a lot to coach Reid': Jaguars' Pederson and mentor Andy Reid set to face off Sunday

The mentor. The student. Both Super Bowl champions. Sunday, the Chiefs' Andy Reid and the Jaguars' Doug Pederson meet once again.

'Trusted him like a coach': Pederson played important role with Favre in Green Bay

"I talked to him about it and I just said, 'Hey, if you get done, you should consider coaching. See what you think.' And he did, he started the high school level and he just kind of worked his way up and built a nice program there. And then I was able to snag him to Philadelphia." From afar, Reid, naturally, sees a more confident coach in Jacksonville than when Pederson first started out as a coach in Philly. The growth and maturity are there and the success Pederson has had thus far in his career proves that.

The respect is mutual from Pederson, who had nothing but positive words to say about Reid when asked about his former mentor earlier this week. "The teams they put out there have all been great football teams and same thing in Philly. They started out slow in ’99 when I was there as a player but quickly escalated with better talent around and a better quarterback at the time, and they were competing for NFC title games just like they are now at Kansas City."
