Jerry Blavat, a legendary Philadelphia disc jockey and radio pioneer, has died at age 82, according to multiple reports.a hospice at Jefferson-Methodist Hospital
The South Philadelphia native was one of the pioneers who helped create the template for the classic rock-and-roll DJ and the “oldies” format. Blavat counted entertainers Sammy Davis Jr., Don Rickles and Frank Sinatra as friends and helped break the Four Seasons and the Isley Brothers, among other artists.
