'I want people to imagine your 12-year-old son is no longer here because someone shot and killed him,' NYC's public advocate said at the vigil.
The 12-year-old boy was shot and killed while eating in the car with family members, as the gunman opened fire in an attempt to shoot someone else. NBC New York's Erica Byfield reports.It was not immediately clear what prompted the shooting, ror if the car itself was the target. Police said that the victims live in the area.
NYC Mayor Eric Adams spoke at a police press conference at the scene hours after the shooting, calling for an end to the violence as he acknowledged that"as long as we have guns and a revolving door system, we're going to continue to come to crime scenes like this."
