Los Angeles Council District 6 race, latest numbers: Imelda Padilla, Marisa Alcaraz and Marco Santana in that order.

In an under-the-radar but consequential special election to represent Los Angeles City Council District 6 in the San Fernando Valley, community organizer Imelda Padilla remains the leader with 25.69% of the vote according to a fresh round of results released by the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder on Friday afternoon.

“I am well positioned to advance in the special runoff election on June 27,” Alcaraz said. “I’m elated to report that my lead over the third place finisher grew from 113 to nearly 300 votes,” she said in a Friday afternoon statement. “It’s time we elect the first single working mother to the L.A. City Council, offering a fresh, diverse perspective that is long overdue.

Political consultant Aaron Green said that the racist backroom recording that made headlines in Los Angeles, as well as other recent City Hall scandals, could be influencing the low voter turnout.
