Indiana's attempt at passing a 'Don't Say Gay' bill turned into legislation about the names and pronouns used by transgender kids in classrooms.
. Much of the original language was stripped by the House education committee, though, and replaced with a provision that simply said schools can’t teach sexual education in those early grades.
“Parents know what’s best for their children and their authority should not be superseded by teachers and administrators,” said Rep. Michelle Davis, R-Whiteland, author of the bill. The LGBTQ community and allies came out in force to oppose the bill. A crowd of several hundred gathered outside of the House chamber, where the hearing was being held, to chant things like “we say gay” and “stand up, fight back.”
