D.C. police are investigating the death of a 3-month-old boy who had been left inside a sedan for an extended time period Tuesday evening.

, said Dustin Sternbeck, a police spokesman. The infant was unconscious and unresponsive, and medics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m., according to a police report.
