Sir Andrew Witty speaks on stage with Moira Forbes about how Optum is focused on primary care on a local level, which leads to greater efficiencies in healthcare. What makes the company so profitable? A focus on efficiency without compromising patient care, Witty said. One example is working with local doctors on a capitation payment plan, pre-arranged monthly payments to a physician based on number of patients, which he says is “driving dramatic improvements in the cost of care delivered,” In addition, he says a focus on primary care “delays or avoids much more expensive costs down the road.
