JAMIL: How did your family respond to you putting your life out there like that?
THOMPSON: She was afraid of what people were going to say. When I came out, I really thought that my career was over. I was like, you know what, I’ve been hiding this secret for so long and I did not think that people would accept me for being a gay male. But then once I came out, my career skyrocketed.
THOMPSON: Yes, 1,000 percent. Ever since I got into this whole world, I have become so confident. I used to think that I was ugly, I used to try to fit into different groups, but when I came out to the world, people were living for me.THOMPSON: Yes. I’ve met so many other amazing, gay, African-American men out here really killing it. And they’ve let me know, “Rickey, you’re out here killing it, too.
