Ironside Human Resources CEO Doug Carter spoke with the Dallas Business Journal about his decision to shift from working in the finance sector to health care staffing.
Was there any difficulty shifting from working in accounting to health care?
There are a lot of similarities between them. You're on the phone constantly. I had to develop all new relationships with a whole new vertical I hadn't worked in. You have to ask a lot of questions, listen and actually care about the hospital's needs. One factor that impacted both positively and negatively was COVID. It was positive because we grew. During the pandemic, we went from having 12 internal employees to about 28.
A recent major challenge we had was our IT infrastructure was not really set up for 50-plus people, so we outsourced everything. While we have to deal with those issues, we have other professionals that are our backbone. We’re not spending a lot of time on those issues, so we can focus on the business. I envision us growing to 100 employees over the next two to five years. At that point, we may look at an acquisition and a strategic partner. ...
