Is drivers ed good enough? Most Americans don't think so
The quality and accessibility of public driver’s education nationwide is declining. Most Americans said it just isn’t what it used to be and a more modern and comprehensive approach to learning how to drive is needed to ensure safety.that aimed to understand the effectiveness of today’s driver’s ed programs by examining how Americans of all ages learned to drive, what information was available and retained, and what needs to change or be updated.
The “sharp decline” is not due to lack of interest, the report noted, as 90% of those polled said they believed driver’s ed should be part of public education today.3 in 5 drivers said they agreed that the driver’s test is designed to be passed, not to truly test one’s driving skills1 in 3 licensed drivers said they spent less than 20 hours behind the wheel prior to taking their driving test
more than half of Boomers, the oldest drivers surveyed, said they remember most or everything they learned
