Israel's military massed troops on the border with Gaza as airstrikes pummeled the Palestinian enclave in the wake of Saturday's attack by Hamas.
Columbia University closed its campus to the public on Thursday ahead of two planned protests--one by Students for Justice in Palestine and another by Students Supporting Israel--out of safety concerns, school officials said.
Entry to the Morningside Heights campus in Manhattan was limited to valid Columbia University ID holders. Access was tightened due to “substantial efforts” to enlist outside supporters in a manner that risked creating an unsafe environment, interim provost Dennis Mitchell said in a statement.
