UAB opens a new men’s and women’s basketball facility
Before the official ribbon cutting held Wednesday of last week, UAB players from both the men’s and women’s teams were treated to a private reveal of their new home Monday afternoon.
Beyond the obvious advantage of having two courts that both basketball teams can use simultaneously, along with 24-hour card access for student-athletes, the facility features offices for both coaching staffs and player lounges and film rooms that are already paying dividends in one of the most important aspects of building and maintaining a championship program.
The renovation of the former student rec center is a welcome but also a bittersweet sight for the former UAB player and current men’s head coach, who led the Blazers to their 16th NCAA tournament appearance this past season.
