Jackie Goldberg, 78, former L.A. City Council member, is chosen by LAUSD board members to be its president.
The Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education has tapped veteran politician and board member Jackie Goldberg to be its new president.
In accepting her position, Goldberg called for the creation of two new committees — a greening and climate committee chaired by board member Rocio Rivas and a procurement and facilities committee chaired by board member Nick Melvoin. “I’m hopeful that our committee structure will change slightly, so that it will be more in tune with suggesting changes to the superintendent and his staff on policy issues, rather than having us be mostly hearing wonderful information, but not actually taking any steps about it,” Goldberg said.
“I want to publicly thank her for her leadership these past couple of years as president,” said Goldberg. “I think she made an opportunity for everyone to speak and to be heard that’s on the board and I think that’s a tradition I intend to continue.”
