as investigators work to uncover what happened in a Manhattan jail leading up to Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide, but they refused to give interviews without lawyers and possibly some concessions by the DOJ, creating delays and tension.
The investigation is being conducted by the FBI, the Southern District of New York and the New York office of the DOJ’s inspector general. Attorney General William Barr said Thursday, “Unfortunately, there have been some delays because a number of the witnesses were not cooperative.” Barr also said that jail employees, considered witnesses, asked for union representation and lawyers before giving interviews to the DOJ.
“The Justice Department would like employees to waive away their minimum constitutional right to representation. That’s what they consider to be a cooperative employee,” Eric Young, president of the jail employees’ union, told the
