JUST ANNOUNCED: @JakeTapper will sit down with President Joe Biden for an exclusive primetime interview on Tuesday, October 11, at 9pmET only on @CNN pic.twitter.com/GRiCvJOPIcSince taking office, Biden has sparingly done sit-down interviews with TV news outlets. He most recently did one last month with CBS's 60 Minutes and made headlines for declaring the COVID-19 pandemic to be over, among other statements.
Biden also voiced the United States's commitment to defending Taiwan from a Chinese attack and left the door open to running for a second term in 2024, though he conditioned that it"remains to be seen." Between taking office and May 2022, Biden was interviewed a mere 23 times. His predecessors, by contrast, former Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump did 95 and 187 by that point in their presidencies respectively.CNN's 9 p.m. slot had been vacated by Chris Cuomo, who recently debuted a show on NewsNation. Cuomo was pushed out of the network following revelations that he helped his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, navigate a sexual misconduct scandal.
Tapper's new show was announced by CNN for its prime-time plans through at least Nov. 11, the week of the midterm elections.
