Amazon founder and world’s richest man Jeff Bezos has blasted off to space aboard his New Shepard rocket, the first human flight of his Blue Origin space company

Bezos is riding with three other passengers: His brother Mark, 82-year-old aviation icon Wally Funk, and 18-year-old Dutch high school grad Oliver Daemen. Funk and Daemen will concurrently set two records for oldest and youngest person to leave Earth’s atmosphere.
The trip will last a total of 10 minutes, wherein the rocket will travel 62 miles up and then detach a capsule in which crew members will get about three minutes of weightlessness. Bezos will also be able to gaze upon the planet he’s peppered with logistics vehicles and fulfillment centers. “People say they go into space [and] that they come back changed; astronauts always talk about that,” Bezos told NBC Today on Monday. “I can’t wait to see what it’s going to do to me.
If all goes according to plan, Bezos will be the second billionaire to escape the surly bonds of Earth. Richard Branson flew to space aboard a rocket plane developed by his company Virgin Galactic nine days earlier.
