It’s no secret that 2000s fashion is back, and in the land of handbags, another Y2K staple is making a grand return: The messenger bag.
Originally launched in the 1970s, the Attaché—which was revived and debuted as part of Gucci’s spring 2022 collection—is now available in mini, small, and large sizes. The messenger comes in leather, suede, or ostrich, and it draws influence from its ’70s inception . To modernize it, the Italian fashion house updated the bag with a softer construction and its signature G-shaped clasp; it can also now be worn on the shoulder, if desired.
Compared to the designer micro bags that have recently trended, there’s something fresh to the larger Attaché messengers in particular: It’s built for function, for one, meaning you finally have room to carry all of your daily belongings to work again. We’ve seen stars dress up the larger sizes in a variety of ways. In Venice, Jodie Turner-Smith paired her monogrammed style with an ombré pastel suit and heels.
