A sexual assault lawsuit against Jerry Jones that had previously been dismissed has been revived.
that an appellate court in Texas ruled Monday that the suit should proceed. In February, the case had been dismissed by the Dallas County district court.
“We always knew we were going to win because the law was on our side,” the plaintiff’s attorney, Daniel Bowers, told the Dallas Morning News. “A victim’s finally going to get her day in court and that’s very important.” The suit, which was originally filed in 2020 and alleged that an incident occurred at the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in 2018, claims that the Cowboys owner “kissed her on the mouth and forcibly grabbed her without her consent.”The Cowboys are also defendants in the lawsuit, which claims the organization “knew or should have known of Jones’s misconduct.” The NFL was listed as a defendant in the original suit but is not named in the appeal.
The accuser goes by the initials J.G.; her identity is not otherwise known. In the suit, she claimed that she suffered “severe emotional distress” and “psychological pain and suffering.” She also said that she incurred medical expenses.Getty Images The suit was originally dismissed after a judge said that the plaintiff had a special exemptions order with which she failed to comply. Conversely, the appellate court said that the accuser “made a good faith attempt to amend her pleadings in response to the court’s special exceptions order …” and that “… the trial court abused its discretion in dismissing appellant’s claims.”
