New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a favorite target already. And his first game with a new team showed how special the connection can be.
And while the first unofficial pass of his Jets’ career showed that he’s going to lean on his No. 1 receiver this year, Rodgers final pass of the night — a perfectly executed pitch and catch for a touchdown — showed the true and tantalizing potential of the connection with his new top target.
And it showed up in a big way during Rodgers’ first game as a Jet as he finished 5-of-8 for 47 yards and a touchdown. Three of those completions were to Wilson, for a total of 30 yards and a score. And he also picked up a big chunk of yards when targeting Wilson down the right sideline two plays before the touchdown — it wasn’t a completion, but a 22-yard pickup on a pass interference penalty.
“Connor actually made a nice call up front,” Rodgers said. “It was a zero-pressure look again with Garrett with an adjustment on the back side and it’s something that we actually hit against Tampa in the joint practices where I threw kind of more of a back-shoulder ball where he made a nice release on the right side on field one.”
