New York Jets coach Robert Saleh says that he's sticking with Zach Wilson because 'you can't just throw people away, man.'
“Sometimes the box score doesn’t always tell the story,” Saleh said Monday, on a video call. “You’ve got to tell the truth on what you see on tape. Can he do better? Of course. Are there things we can do better around him as teammates? Of course. Are there things that we can do better as a coaching staff? Absolutely. ... [But] he’s not the reason why we lost [Sunday].”
Of course, it was Saleh who benched Wilson after his disastrous loss to the Patriots in Foxborough last year. And it was Saleh who again pulled him from a December game on Thursday night football, to massive cheers from the home crowd, and replaced him with practice squad quarterback Chris Streveler.
The Jets coach also added that the Jets are still adjusting to a new plan after losing Aaron Rodgers for the season just two weeks ago.
