Turner-Smith also feels fortunate to play opposite Farrell in Kogonada’s sci-fi drama, which follows a family that struggles to reconnect after their A.I. helper , Yang (star almost missed her chance to try out for the film. “I flew to New York to do this audition. It kind of was like a series of unfortunate events where I couldn’t get the flight I was supposed to get, so I didn’t end up getting there until the day after. But Colin waited for me,” she says. Once she finally made it to New York, Turner-Smith read with Farrell; within hours, she was offered the role. Clearly, she and Farrell have a connection.“I loved working with Colin.
Turner-Smith also credits Kogonada’s film for giving her a preview of experiences to come. In the film, she plays a parent to’s Mika; in real life, she says, “The funny thing is, I wasn’t yet a mother.” But just weeks after the movie wrapped in the summer of 2019, Turner-Smith got pregnant. “It’s crazy how it was almost this amazing, energetic foreshadowing into motherhood.”
