John Malone’s Swiss sale still faces interference LiamWardProud
Swiss telecoms group Sunrise Communications on Aug. 22 increased its forecast cost savings from a planned purchase of peer UPC Switzerland, and said it could reduce the size of a proposed rights issue to fund the deal.
Sunrise’s biggest shareholder Freenet has criticised the all-cash 6.3 billion Swiss franc takeover, and asked for the price to be cut and part of the offer to be made in shares. The company argued that its purchase price was fair relative to recent sector transactions, and that higher synergy estimates could allow it to increase leverage and therefore ask for less money from shareholders.
