WASHINGTON—Chelsea Manning, the former U.S. Army intelligence analyst convicted of leaking government secrets to WikiLeaks, must be released from a jail where she has been held for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating its founder, Julian Assange, a federal judge said.
The grand jury investigating the organization is no longer active, U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga said in an order Thursday, a day after Ms. Manning’s lawyers said she had been hospitalized after trying to kill herself.
