Kaitlynn Carter Opens Up In Essay Detailing Sudden Love Affair With Miley Cyrus
shocked the world, and themselves, with their sudden, intense romance this summer. Now Carter is clearing the air and revealing where she stands after the whirlwind relationship ended.
That summer, both Cyrus and Carter were both going through recent break-ups. Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth had just ended their on-again-off-again relationship after nearly ten years. Not even a Christmas wedding was enough to keep them together, and Hemsworth filed for divorce in August 2019. That same month, Carter was having her own marital issues, as she and husband Brody Jenner separated. Though the couple never legally married in the United States, Carter considered her marriage to Jenner the real deal. She was devastated when it ended. She turned to travel and friends, including Cyrus, to get over her broken heart.
“As my friend and I spent that August traveling through Europe together and trying to move past our respective break-ups, my first and only romance with a woman was born,” Carter recalled. Looking back over her three-year friendship with Cyrus, Carter realized she’d always been attracted to Cyrus in a way that she hadn’t felt with other friends. She’d never thought of her in a romantic sense until their European vacation together.
In the essay, Carter refuses to label herself as any specific sexuality. She calls it “interesting” that both friends and strangers feel the need to weigh in on what sexuality they think she is. Some have assumed that she’s going to go back to being attracted to men, “as if they’re more familiar with my sexuality than I am.
