As we write on Friday afternoon, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s bill to fund the government for a month, along with some other conservative sweeteners,with 21 conservative Republicans joining all Democrats to vote against it. Barring a quickie last-minute agreement between the House and Senate, by late Saturday night, to keep the government open for a week or a few days, the federal government will shut down at midnight.
In his weekly press conference on Thursday, Jeffries said, “I haven't given it any thought” when asked how Democrats would come down on McCarthy’s speakership.
