We chat with BigGeorgeForeman star Khris Davis about the incredible physical transformations he underwent to accurately portray iconic boxer George Foreman in this new biopic:
The life of a legend is coming to the big screen in Big George Foreman, a biopic exploring the life and times of its namesake. George Foreman is many things, but most famously is a two-time world heavyweight boxing champion, and the oldest person ever to win the belt — he was 45 years old for his second win. While Foreman’s life has been explored in interviews and documentaries, Big George Foreman aims to dramatize the man’s incredible story while keeping things as true-to-life as possible.
Khris Davis: This is the most insane job I've ever done as it pertains to body changes. Coming from the theater world, I understand how to do some physical things with the body that can either shrink you or make you appear larger. Understanding that kind of physicality [because] I come from theater... I'm glad I had that background, because then I can go from young to a little bit older. We're talking about [George Foreman at] 17, and then, in another part of the film, he's 45.
Khris Davis: I wouldn't say the hardest part. It really boiled down to just understanding what I wanted to emulate, and the specificity of that, and breaking down the script the way that we do in theatre. This is a full-arc character. [He's] complicated and nuanced, which is what happens in a lot of the plays that we do.
