Much of today’s proceedings have remained unchanged from coronations prior, but whatstand out as different was the inclusion of women throughout. This extends from those that were inside the Abbey to those outside and beyond—as well as those we’ll see later on today.
Penny Mourdant, a British MP who is not only the Leader of the House of Commons, but also Lord President of the Privy Council, was front and center wielding the 17th-century Sword of State, becoming the first woman to present the priceless artifact to the monarch. She was the one in the teal caped dress with gold leaf embellishments demonstrating superb strength of stillness.
While we wait for the King and Queen to show face again—they’re currently preparing in another part of the Abbey for their return journey to Buckingham Palace—many will be taking a moment to reflect on the various nods to the late Queen Elizabeth II during today’s service.
