Are expectations at Ohio State so unreasonable that being the president, or the football coach, is beyond a mere mortal, no matter how qualified?

Ohio State president Kristina Johnson announced in November that she would be stepping down from her post at the end of the academic year, halfway through her contract. It was a stunning announcement, as Johnson was – and is – a talented, dynamic and effective leader of one of the world’s largest universities. What happened?. It’s important reading if you live in Columbus or have any connection at all to Ohio State. It’s a complex story that requires much digesting.

In other words, there are powerful forces that want Ohio State’s leader to be more of a puppet than an actual president. They miss Gordon Gee. It seems to me that Johnson is leaving because she will not compromise her principles, or the basic ideals of higher education. That is an admittedly single, abbreviated take. Read our story and parse it for yourself. It’s our tax money at work, after all, usually in executive session.
