The No. 164 overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft, Williams appeared in nine regular-season contests with the Rams. The former Notre Dame standout rushed for 139 yards on 35 carries while averaging an impressive 4.0 yards per carry.
Williams didn’t have a full offseason to prepare for his rookie campaign. Williams suffered a foot injury that forced him to miss the majority of summer workouts. He started training camp on the PUP list as a result. Williams then suffered a foot injury in the Rams’ regular-season opening defeat to the Buffalo Bills Now healthy and available, Williams is taking advantage of a regular offseason training program.
Despite those setbacks, Williams began gaining momentum as the season wore on. Akers is entering a fate-deciding contract season. Akers’ relationship with the Rams has been tumultuous. Akers evena midseason trade last year. Akers may not have a long-term future in Los Angeles. Williams, who’s under a cost-controlled rookie deal for the following three seasons, could be auditioning to secure the Rams’ No. 1 spot for the foreseeable future.
