Los Angeles housing officials say more work must be done, but they expect to house more homeless in next six months.

With additional temporary and permanent housing placements under other programs, the city has housed 14,381 people since mid-December, Bass and members of her administration reported on Tuesday, June 13, one day after the mayor hit her six-month mark.

According to her office, the more than 14,000 people placed in temporary or permanent housing during the mayor’s first six months were helped through the following programs and services: Asked by a reporter how many Inside Safe participants have been placed in permanent housing since the program began, Marquez said she did not yet have an answer because various service providers are entering data into the reporting system at different times. On Tuesday, housing leaders said delays in reporting and getting numbers verified led in March to a severe undercount of the number of homeless actually being housed.

In addition to improving the reporting system, Bass on Tuesday continued her call to change policies to allow for what she called “presumptive eligibility” for people waiting to be placed in housing. Housing officials also acknowledged during Tuesday’s roundtable that getting Inside Safe participants the support services they need, such as health or social services, is a challenge due to a shortage of people providing these services.
