Los Angeles Valley College held its 2023 commencement ceremony on June 6 at Monarch Stadium at its campus in Valley Glen, with about 500 students getting much-deserved diplomas after succeeding and thriving in the era of the pandemic.
Cecily Sewell, 36, of Sun Valley, is introduced as a Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship recipient during Los Angeles Valley College’s commencement ceremony on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in Valley Glen. Sewell, who was homeless for four years at 16 and lost her job in the pandemic, is headed to Columbia University with her 5-year-old daughter on the full ride scholarship where she will continue to study media arts and screen writing.
