Brown was presented the award in a surprise ceremony at the school Tuesday morning. Brown was there for an early morning workout in the weight room when she was led the gym where family, friends, and teammates were awaiting. Playing for Lake Creek head coach Michelle Rochinski has had a major impact on her career. But it was a goal-setting conversation with assistant coach Candyce Carter at the beginning of the school year that made Brown feel that the biggest individual achievement of all was possible.“At the very beginning of the year, I had a talk with our new assistant and now new head coach at Lake Creek – Candyce Carter – and I talked to her about some of my goals I had for this year,” Brown explained.
Both Brown and McDuffee have the matching distinction of playing for teams that finished 44-1 and a state championship their respective senior years.
