WILLOUGHBY, Ohio – Lake Erie Distillery, Willoughby, -- best known for locally distilled Dill Pickle Vodka – has a busy schedule this fall. Owners Fred and Cathy Wisen will be launching three spirits in the next three months.
Disclaimer: It contains no ghost pepper. The name was chosen because the five grains create a complex flavor profile that takes its time crossing the palate. The third release -- Burning River Whisky -- will follow on December 1. The Wisens are waiting for final label approval. Fred refers to it as “adult” Fireball, because this cinnamon whisky lacks the sweetness of the well-known brand.
Additional spirits include bourbon , Jamaican-style rum, whisky and Maple whisky. Jalapeno whisky is in the development phase. All are made with locally grown grains, mostly from Ashtabula County.
